Birth Control Education

Student Health Services has many excellent resources to assist you in all of your contraception and sexual health needs - from the trained peer educators in Health Education and Promotion to the nurse practitioners and physicians in the Women’s Clinic, Advice Nurse and Primary Care areas. Health information and advice are available to you by telephone, in person, by appointment with your chosen provider, and online. Please make use of us – it’s what we’re here for!

Student Health Services encourages all students obtaining hormonal birth control for the first time to attend a Birth Control Education (BCE) session before making a clinic visit. This is an excellent opportunity to learn in depth information about available contraceptive methods. Since contraception involves both partners, couples are encouraged to participate in the session together.

BCE’s are available in a group class setting and online. Both options are free of charge:

  • The BCE group session is provided in the Women’s Clinic by the nursing staff. To sign-up please call the Appointment Desk at 530.752.2349.
  • The information covered in the Birth Control Education sessions is also available online (see below).
