Allergy Services
The Davis area can be a concern for students with allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hives and asthma - particularly those allergic to tree pollen. If you have dealt with spring allergies before coming to Davis, it's possible that you may be more significantly affected here. There are many over the counter products that are effective in alleviating symptoms. Note that everyone responds differently to medications and it may take time to find the one that works for you.
If over the counter products are not working, you may want to consider being evaluated by our medical staff and ask about prescription medications. Please contact our Appointment Desk (530.752.2349) to schedule an appointment. Also, our Advice Nurse (530.752.9649) service is free for all UC Davis students who want to discuss health concerns and the need for medical care, including allergies.
If you are allergy prone, the secret to success is to get your over the counter and prescription medications in advance of the allergy season. Start taking medications at the first sign and do not wait for the problem to get severe.
Allergy Testing and Antigen Services
If you have severe allergies, you may want to discuss allergy testing or antigen injections with one of our providers or your private physician. Allergy testing or antigen injections are not available at Student Health Services, however, there are many resources in the Davis community that we can refer you to.
If you're on the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), you will need to schedule an appointment and obtain a referral from a SHS primary care provider.
If you have private insurance, please check with your insurance company to see which allergist(s) are available under your health insurance plan. It's your responsibility to know your insurance benefits and obtain an authorization to see a consultant/specialist.
Below is a list for local allergists in the Davis community. These offices are all accessible by walking, biking, and taking various Unitrans bus routes. Each office has a different schedule for administering antigen injections/shots - please check with the specific doctor for their respective clinic schedules.
