Welcome to UC Davis! Cowell Student Health Center is conveniently located on the UC Davis campus and provides students with wellness, illness, and injury care. The services at Cowell are AVAILABLE TO ALL registered students regardless of insurance coverage. Student fees subsidize the services of Cowell Student Health Center; students pay small fees for most services. Medical Entrance Requirements

Students are required to complete the Medical Entrance Requirements upon entry to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Student Health Services must receive all documentation by September 1, 2008. Those who fail to meet the requirements are subject to holds on enrollment, classroom activity, and/or financial aid.

Health Insurance Requirement

The University of California requires that all students have health insurance. To help you meet the Health Insurance Requirement, UC Davis automatically enrolls all registered students in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Fees for SHIP coverage are charged to your student account each term along with your registration fees.

SHIP coverage for new School of Veterinary Medicine students begins on September 2, 2008. For information about coverage dates and costs for 2008-09, go to SHIP: Cost and Dates of Coverage.

  • If you want to be enrolled in SHIP, you are automatically enrolled — no action is required.
  • If you have comparable insurance and do not want to be enrolled in SHIP, you must apply for a SHIP waiver by the new veterinary student waiver deadline September 2, 2008. If your waiver is approved, your SHIP enrollment will be waived through the end of the 2007-2008 academic year. The services at Cowell Student Health Center are available to all students, even if you waive SHIP.

PLEASE NOTE: Your waiver deadline will be specific to new veterinary students. If you do not file a waiver by the September 2, 2008 deadline, you will be charged a non-refundable fee for fall quarter SHIP coverage. The fall quarter waiver deadline for other UC Davis students does not apply to you.
