Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drug Issues: Services
e-TOKE (NEW for Fall)
e-TOKE is a free anonymous assessment and online feedback tool that focuses on marijuana use and effects. It is available to all registered UC Davis students and will give you a personalized report that compares your use or non-use of marijuana with that of other UC Davis students.
Alcohol, Drug Abuse Prevention & Treatment (ADAPT) is a program in Health Education & Promotion that focuses on alcohol, tobacco and other drug issues (ATOD).
ADAPT Goals
Anticipate, plan for and respond to the needs and interests of a diverse and dynamic student body by providing services that:
- Empower students to make healthy and responsible choices;
- Promote low-risk behavior and support non-use;
- Communicate negative consequences of high risk alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use;
- Communicate realities, and secondary effects of ATOD abuse; and
- Employ strategies that impact environments as well as individuals.
- Reduce ATOD-related barriers to academic and social development.
- Build partnerships between administrators, faculty and students.
ADAPT Components
Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS)
TIPS is a two to three hour training that teaches students the skills they need to intervene in situations where their peers are misusing alcohol. Alcohol-related sexual assault and other issues are also addressed. Certified TIPS trainers conduct the training. Participants who pass a test at the training are TIPS certified for three years. The cost is $15.00 per person for materials. A DVD player and TV need to be supplied.
Safe Party Initiative
The Safe Party Initiative aims to reduce problems related to college student drinking at parties in the Davis community. It focuses on creating safer party environments by building a closer sense of community between students and neighbors, promoting safety at parties and enhancing enforcement of alcohol-related laws and policies. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the City of Davis and the University of California, Davis. Health Education & Promotion receives funding from the Prevention Research Center to coordinate the Initiative at UC Davis.
Presentations
Health Education & Promotion has peer health education and professional staff available to address a number of health promotion topics. The Presentations page has a full list of presentations offered by our department.
