Student Health & Wellness Center
New Facility Scheduled to Open in 2010
The UC Davis Student Health & Wellness Center is scheduled to be completed in 2010. This state-of-the-art facility offers 75,000 gross square feet and 43,000 assignable square feet that will house the functions of Student Health Services. The Student Health & Wellness Center will utilize the newest technology and the latest trends in student healthcare to enhance student visits and delivery of care. It will replace the Cowell Student Health Center and allow Student Health Services to meet enrollment demands, improve accessibility, and support students’ academic successes.
Utilizing sustainable design elements in the areas of water & energy efficiency, materials usage, and environmental quality, this building will exceed the UC Regent’s Policy for Green Building Design and is expected to qualify for a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Rating. This project will also exceed California Building Standards Code (Title 24) by at least 35%.
At the Student Health & Wellness Center, Student Health Services will continue to provide quality and cost-sensitive care tailored to the unique and diverse needs of students. This includes services such as primary care, specialty care, urgent care, diagnostic services, mental health support, health promotion, and wellness programs. This building is at the heart of the Student Health Services mission, which is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and promote lifelong wellness.
Site Location
The site of the new Student Health & Wellness Center will be on La Rue Road in between Hutchison Drive and Orchard Road. This is across the street from the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) near the former location of the basketball courts.
Ceremonial Groundbreaking • May 5, 2008
The Ceremonial Groundbreaking for the UC Davis Student Health & Wellness Center took place on Monday, May 5, 2008. This will be the new home of Student Health Services when the facility opens in 2010. Opening remarks were delivered by Chancellor Larry N. Vanderhoef.
