When We are Closed
SHCS Medical Services will be closed during the 2010 Spring Break from March 20, 2010 - March 28, 2010 as we move to the new Student Health and Wellness Center. We will reopen with all primary care services available on Monday, March 29, 2010.
If you have a medical or psychological emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room.
During Our Closure Period
Health-e-Messaging with your Primary Care Provider
If you send us a message, you will be informed via a programmed auto-response from your provider telling you when he/she will respond to your message. Most providers will be available to respond to you during the week of March 29, 2010.
Advice Nurse Services
The SHCS Medical Services Advice Nurse service is only available during SHCS Medical Services hours of operation. For confidential Advice Nurse services when SHCS Medical Services is closed, students can call the Anthem Blue Cross Nurse Line at 1.800.977.0027 and speak with nurses who will help them make informed decisions about their health situation.
Pharmacy Services
SHCS Medical Services Pharmacy services will be closed and and will be unavailable to refill or transfer your existing prescription to an outside pharmacy. If you have an existing prescription that is due to be refilled, please discuss options with the SHCS Medial Services pharmacy prior to March 8, 2009. If you need a refill during the closure period, you may need to visit an outside provider to obtain a new prescription and have it filled at an outside pharmacy (SHIP students see section about prescriptions below).
Students on the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
For medical care during closure
If you require emergency services, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
For non-emergency services in California
Urgent care services: Call an Urgent Care facility, confirm they are an Anthem Blue Cross Prudent Buyer Provider (to receive highest reimbursement), and schedule an appointment. Present SHIP card at the time of service. Call Insurance Services at SHCS 530.752.6055 when regular business hours resume.
Primary care services: Any non-urgent primary care services should be scheduled at SHCS Medical Services upon your return to campus in January. If you obtain elective primary care services without SHCS referral, charges may not be covered by SHIP.
For non-emergency services outside California
For non-emergency treatment, call (800)810-BLUE (on back of SHIP card). Anthem Blue Cross will help to identify a local affiliated provider. Present SHIP card at the time of service
Prescriptions
If you require pharmacy services during the closure period, you will be responsible for full payment of pharmacy charges at the retail pharmacy of your choice. You can submit a reimbursement claim form to Anthem Blue Cross for 50% reimbursement of the covered expenses.
Insurance Services
There will be no Insurance Services representatives available during the closure period. Insurance Services when regular business hours resume.
Students with Private Insurance
For medical care during closure
If you have private insurance, you should seek care or services as outlined in your plan description. Call your insurance company for more information and instructions. Contact information is usually printed somewhere on your insurance card.
